SOLIDARITY TO THE PRISONERS IN THE USA
The 9th of September 1971 was one of the most important dates for the
struggle against the prisons. The Attica revolt would be a massive event
even without the following slaughter committed by the cops in accordance
with orders of the Law and Order dogma which in several variations is
followed everywhere in the western world to this day.
A big part of the prisoners then, were influenced by the liberating
movements that acted outside the walls (black liberation, anti-war,
women liberation etc.) and placed the prison as a space and as an
institution, in the epicentre of the struggle for the changing of the
existence conditions.
Prisons are the main tool of the state in order for it to get rid of
those superfluous or too dangerous for the cemetery silence it wants to
impose. As capitalism evolves and reaches its limits, swallowing in its
destructive course, people, natural resources and entire natural
habitats, it maximizes its need for profit and transforms millions of
people into slaves.
The pan-american strike beginning on 9/9 has a clear slogan: “We refuse
to be slaves any longer”.
Forced labour in state, private or federal prisons, transforms the
almost 2.500.000 prisoners of the USA into slaves of the multinationals.
“It’s time this stops. We will stop it”. As the prisoners themselves say
in their announcement.
We know how hard it is to fight capitalism where it is strongest, the
USA, and we also know that depriving it of part of its profits is the
only thing that can really hurt it.
This is why the strike that is beginning is so important.
This is why we send our solidarity and greetings to the revolted dignity
of the prisoners in USA.
