We call all collectives, associations and individuals to a gathering at Omonoia square on Wednesday 26/9 at 18.00 and then a march to Syntagma square for the murder of Zak Kostopoulos.
Last Friday, Zak, a gay, HIV positive activist and drag queen (Zackie Oh) was murdered near Omonoia square by two macho guys, with help by the police who -while unconscious-handcuffed and hit him too.
From the beginning, the media distorted the facts and created a story based solely on the take of the owner of the jewellery store where the beating took place. The videos that surfaced show clearly what happened and yet the court case file mentions nothing about a beating, the pathology report is not conclusive as to the cause of death and the media continue to stigmatize Zak as a junkie and thief.
We are outraged. Toxic masculinity, bosses, cops and the state murdered Zak. This will not be left as it is. All of us faggots, trannies, junkies, HIV positives will continue to revolt on the streets until all parties responsible are brought to justice so we can walk the streets safe. This has happened before again and again, with different names and situations, and death has taken many meanings: Political, social, class related, family related, media related. We can’t let this death go.
If we don’t go out on the streets now, when will we?
We call everyone to join us at Omonoia square on Wednesday 26/09 at 18.00 to march together to Syntagma. For our Zak.
