Athens,Greece : Rally against the police occupation army and its sexist attacks in Exarchia & Solidarity with Rojava
October 17, 2019by actforfreedom
On Saturday, October 12, anarchist-antiauthoritarian women comrades organized a gathering in Exarchia square against the police occupation army in the neighborhood and its sexist and homophobic attacks.
A demo led by a women’s bloc moved towards the police checkpoint in Tositsa street, where dozens of women in struggle stood in front the riot police forces, chanting slogans against the cops and drug mafias, against state repression and patriarchy, in solidarity with immigrants and refugees, raising their fists in support of the people’s resistance in Rojava.
IN GREECE, MEXICO, ROJAVA AND TURKEY – WOMEN’S STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM
LET’S FIGHT TOGETHER AGAINST THE POLICE OCCUPATION ARMY AND ITS SEXIST ATTACKS
In the context of the wider repressive campaign, which targets the squatted spaces of life and struggle, the refugees and immigrants, the anarchist movement and the social and class resistance, the state is attempting to impose conditions of occupation in Exarcheia, an area that symbolizes the social prerogatives of solidarity, self-organization and revolt.
As every plan which attempts to terrorize the people of the struggle and subordinate the whole population, this state operation of conquest is expressed also through the attempt to humiliate the women of the struggle, girls, students, women workers, mothers who live and fight in the neighborhood.
Squads of riot police occupy the streets and the corners of the public space. They invade squats at dawn, destroying the self-organized life of uprooted people and the structures that were created by the solidarity of those from below. With guns and gloves in their hands, they lead women, children and men in police buses in order to transfer them to concentration camps, where there is only imprisonment, impoverishment and death, like the death of a child in a carton box or in the flames that suffocated Faride Tajik from Afganistan in Moria, while she was surrounded by barbed wire.
The same squads are marching as invaders outside our homes and schools, threatening spaces of struggle, polluting our days and nights with the noise of their boots and police radios, imposing the militarization of everyday life. This police army makes homophobic and sexist assaults, systematically harassing the women in Exarcheia. On our way to school, to home or to work, going to our assemblies or just for a walk, they are attempting to establish a condition where we are obligated to pass through the police check points, with the armed bullies supervising our movements, commenting on our appearance, insulting us with their sexist comments, moving towards us, monitoring our routes.
At the same time, they are attacking with intense and targeted fury the women who resist state repression, as it happened after the demonstration of thousands of people on September 14th. After the end of the demonstration at Exarcheia, along with the arrests and the chemical war, the riot police trapped and beat women comrades using sexist violence. A violence which aims to punish the women who, also as such, chose to revolt, to struggle against the state and the drugmafias.
Their sexist and homophobic attacks are part of their attempt to subjugate and neutralize resistance, of their effort to impose state, capitalist and patriarchic brutality and social cannibalism which they themselves are promoting.
However, these are the streets where we fought and we are still struggling against fear and repression, against drug-mafias and their police-protectors, against their devastating plans of creating ghettos and enforcing the law of the strongest against social self-organization· against their plans to uproot resistance and to destroy the living social fabric of the neighborhood, in order to transform it into a sterile zone of capitalist profitability. In these streets, we have walked side by side, building communities of solidarity. And this solidarity will win!
EVERYONE ON THE STREETS, EVERYONE ON THE SQUARES POLICE AND MAFIAS OUT OF EXARCHEIA
